Mr. Kevin Lee Cheeks, Sr. "Butch" was the third of five children born to James A. and Minnie Cheeks, Sr. He attended Lansing Public Schools, where he was regarded as a track and basketball star. Kevin graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1976. In 1978, Kevin enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country for over four years, and received ribbons and medals for many services including good conduct, rifle and grenade expert. Kevin was a proud veteran, he loved fishing, hunting and most of all spending time with his children, family, and friends. Kevin was a friend to all, loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all. He was the proud owner of his own business “Cheeks Family Painting” for over 16 years.
Kevin made his transition from his Earthly home to his Heavenly home on Sunday morning, June 5, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memories two sons: Kevin (Stacey) Butler, Sr. and Miguel (Carri) Trevino, two daughters: Brandy (Brian John Henry, Sr.) Cheeks and his youngest, Elisa Cheeks, grandchildren: Makayla Butler, Oceana Trevino, Da’Money Trevino, Amor henry, Ty’Carria Trevino, Kevin Butler, Jr., Brian John Henry, Jr., King Amir Henry, Gavyn Lee Henry, and Ramiyah Honeysucker, great-granddaughter, Queen Foreman, siblings: Agatha Cheeks, James A. Cheeks, Jr., and Cynthia Cheeks, special nephew: Chandler Cheeks, Sr., special friends: Frances Cheeks, Martha Butler, Jchon Johnson and many other family and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Cheeks, Sr. and brother, Herbert Young.
The Funeral Celebration honoring Kevin will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2022 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5200 Pleasant Grove Road, Lansing, Michigan 48911 with Pastor Thomas Surdenik presiding. Repass dinner will immediately follow the service, all are welcome, 450 Clare Street, Lansing, Michigan 49817. Interment with Military Honors will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.cremationyourway.com.
